Description

Gangaramaya is not your typical serene Buddhist temple. It is a wildly eclectic, expansive, and visually overwhelming complex that serves as a temple, a museum, and a learning center all at once. The architecture is a fascinating mix of Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese design.

Inside, you will find thousands of Buddha statues, ranging from towering gold figures to tiny jade carvings, alongside bizarre collections of antique cars, old cameras, and historical artifacts gifted to the temple by devotees over decades. A short walk away sits the related Seema Malaka, a beautiful, peaceful meditation center floating on the nearby Beira Lake.
