Description

Stretching for a half-kilometer along the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, Galle Face Green is the urban heart of Colombo's social life. Originally cleared by the Dutch to give their cannons a clean line of fire, it is now a sprawling lawn where families, teenagers, and tourists gather every evening.

As the sun begins to set, the promenade comes alive with hundreds of colorful kites, street performers, and dozens of street food carts. It is the absolute best place in the city to watch a spectacular coastal sunset while snacking on spicy Isso Vadey (prawn fritters) and feeling the strong ocean breeze.
